There is a deep longing for connection in our hearts and so we wish to become more connected and more together.
But we have all grown up in a highly individualized society, have been taught to compete, and especially in Finland to make it on ones own, to not ask for help.
Joining a community can be a challenging time of giving up old ways, but you would not be reading this without the intuition that it will be worth it.
The community is all the people living in Meltola, either in the main house or in one of the houses close by. Everyone chooses their level of involvement, but everyone has a voice and is welcome to participate.
The running of the house, events and various other activities is organised into an association (legally Osuuskunta Hub Feenix). To be part of the association affords a more direct say in matters, but quite literally comes at a price.
We call people who can not live here (maybe at this time), but still support the community financially, Friends. They have the same benefits and rights as community members in exchange for their contribution.
We welcome everyone who shares our values and vision to come and live here. We are about twenty at the moment with the aim of growing to fifty, and have many kinds of different accommodation options.
Together with our international volunteers, artists and nomads we have a vibrant life and are actively looking to change our ways of living together for the better.
It is very easy to join at this level, just reach our on any of the sites or social platforms.
To become a member of the association, and thus have voting rights and other benefits, you must live here for at least one year.
After having signalled interest in joining and showing active interest over some time, a process of in depth getting to know each other starts.
Becoming a member does require financial investment. An adequate level must be found together before the final step, a unanimous vote of current members.
Friends of the community are supporters of the people and idea that have spare funds but not the ability to move here (eg parents).
Many people look for connection and also a place to invest a small amount of money (for them) into a social cause without looking for financial returns. Since we use the Les Pas Sage model, we can accept such "loans" from silent members, and provide meaningful connection and a sense of community.
